The Guild

Membership in the NVP Guild not only records your support and interest in this culture-transforming effort to fund aspiring entrepreneurs in marginalized communities, but it offers these benefits at no cost to you:

Access and push-notification to leading edge learnings, thinking, and experiences endeavoring to break the cycle of generational poverty in marginalized communities.

Access and push-notification of periodic and regular Spark Tank or Soulcial Kitchen events where aspiring entrepreneurs are learning and working on Mindset Shift #1. This includes opportunities to mentor aspiring entrepreneurs or sponsor learning events in the ecosystem.

Access and push-notification of both in-person and on-line mock and real pitch events where aspiring entrepreneurs share their passion, vision, value proposition, strategies, and financial projections in hopes of securing either kick start grants or PRI debt or equity investments. You watch, listen, judge, then pledge your DAF monies as you feel moved. You always initiate the move of monies.

Access to a registration in a mission-aligned Reg CF portal and push-notifications of new issuers on the portal, with an option to both pledge and then affirm investments in aspiring entrepreneurs in marginalized communities.

The Five Step NVP Process.

Step 1: Get Your Money Ready

The first step in making New Venture Philanthropy (NVP) a reality is to get your donated dollars into an intentional Donor Advised Fund (DAF) that deploys charitable dollars as Program Related Investments (PRIs). There are two options that NVP suggests: 1. SaT Catalyst Fund (minimum contribution of $5,000) https://satcatalyst.com 2. Impact Foundation (minimum contribution of $25,000) https://www.impactfoundation.org/ Upon donation to these funds, the donor is eligible for a tax-deductible charitable contribution and, like donating to a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, they forfeit these monies yet can direct them to projects they wish to fund/capitalize.

Step 2: Find a Project to Invest In

New Venture Philanthropy is committed to providing capital to entrepreneurs and businesses in marginalized or rural communities where traditional bank, angel or venture capital options are rare or nonexistent. Why? Because justice is earned through businesses launched in these communities, by these communities, and for these communities. Economic justice earned breaks the cycle of poverty gripping so many US marginalized and rural communities. The Spark Tank is a local, regional, and national learn-to-launch program for entrepreneurs in these communities. Those completing the program have invested the time to think through the viability of their enterprise and business and are ready for start-up or expansion capital using your PRIs (already donated to your DAF). You can find entrepreneurs and their businesses at www.newventurephilanthropy.com. The idea here is that multiple philanthropists pool their monies to help launch these businesses. As the donor, you can direct the fund/foundation to enter into a debt agreement with the entrepreneurial business. See the Spark Tank tab for projects ready for funding.

Step 3: Fund/Foundation and Business Agree to Terms and Sign Note Payable

As directed, your fund/foundation will enter into a Notes Payable with the business/project, whereby your PRI/DAF fund will be repaid principal and interest on terms friendly to the business – usually payment at maturity with interest accrued annually. If the business prevails, your PRI/DAF fund can be an evergreen investment in businesses like this or other charitable efforts. If the business doesn’t make it, your funds were used to create jobs in the interim and the potential for wealth-building in a community that rarely has that opportunity. Because the learn-to-launch Spark Tank program is a prerequisite for listing on the NVP site, we believe the entrepreneurs are ready to give their best and have a fighting chance! Your PRI/DAF fund’s debt capital investment is a difference maker in providing solutions to real problems in these communities!

Step 4: Fund/Foundation Will Deploy Monies as Directed

Your PRI/DAF fund/foundation will deploy the amount of money you choose to invest as directed. Monies will be deposited directly into the bank account of the business and the fund will hold a copy of the Note Payable and related terms. You are welcome and invited to contact the business and follow up on any questions and progress.

Step 5: Wait, Pray, Support.

Allow the funds to work in the business, waiting patiently as the business deploys its funds as planned and works to create positive cash flow over its initial years of operations. Pray for the success of the business and support it as your time and talent allow by advising the entrepreneur of opportunities or threats as you might see or encounter them. Be an active assist to the business to the extent you desire to be. Nothing is required here, but all smart money is welcome.
